My advice: Since dictation works surprisingly well with just your Mac’s built-in microphone, why not give it a try if you haven’t already? Then, if you discover that you enjoy being a dictator, consider a good headset microphone and/or one of Dragon’s commercial dictation offerings.
While the macOS version is not as powerful and lacks many of the advanced features you’ll find in commercial speech-to-text apps like Dragon Professional for Mac, it works well enough for light use and you can’t beat the price-it’s free (Dragon retails for $300). Just some of the things you can tell your Mac to do for you! You can even switch to or launch applications by voice. PDF to Flipbook Software for Mac v.1.
This is a great trick because it allows you to quickly talk to content on your Mac screen, such as a document, PDF, e-book, or webpage, and all you need is a hotkey for the selected or active document. Mac: Text To Speech v.1.0 This is a T2S or Text To Speech application that will allow Mac OS X 10.5 users to type in any text into the text box then hear.

Some of the bigger changes include a new "Split View" that makes it easier to view two windows side by side (it works similar to split-screen apps in Windows 8), and the introduction of natural language search in Spotlight that lets you find items with search strings like "picture I took last week." Mail and Safari have a few new updates too (pinned tabs!), and Notes has got a more substantial upgrade with better options for formatting and attachments. While the look and feel of El Capitan stay extremely close to Yosemite, there are a few small tweaks such as a new system font named San Francisco.
The update, which has been available as public beta since July, is a relatively small update for OS X, focusing on two major areas: "Experience" and "Performance." The former is all about integrating Apple's own apps more tightly than ever before (rewarding people who use the company's own products rather than third-party offerings), while the latter is about, well, faster performance. The latest version of Apple's OS X operating system for Macs will be shipping from September 30th, according to a demo email message shown briefly onstage at this year's product keynote and later confirmed on Apple's site.
